Panaji Hosts Ninth SOLAS Open Science Conference
Panaji, Goa – The CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa is set to host the prestigious international Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) Open Science Conference from November 11 to 14, marking the first time this biennial event is held in India.
SOLAS, an international research initiative, gathers leading experts from around the globe to discuss and advance scientific understanding of the interactions between the ocean and the lower atmosphere. This year's conference will feature a series of presentations and roundtable discussions aimed at fostering collaborations and pushing forward research in this critical area of environmental science.
The conference kicks off on November 11 at 8:30 AM with an inaugural session at the NIO auditorium in Dona Paula, Goa. Following the opening, the event will host three discussion sessions, providing an informal platform for scientists to engage in detailed exchanges on SOLAS-related topics.
A significant highlight of this year's conference is the introduction of a mentorship program planned for mid-2025. Aimed at nurturing the next generation of researchers, this program will pair early career scientists (ECS) with seasoned experts across various disciplines. An open session during the OSC will specifically focus on gathering feedback to refine the structure and execution of this upcoming initiative.
The SOLAS Open Science Conference not only underscores India's growing role in international environmental research but also serves as a crucial meeting point for scientists to share knowledge, collaborate, and innovate for the future of ocean and atmospheric studies.
