ONE NATION ONE SUBSCRIPTION INITIATIVE A GAME-CHANGER FOR INDIA'S RESEARCH ECOSYSTEM

NEW DELHI, Dec 11, 2024 - The government of India's 'One Nation One Subscription' (ONOS) initiative has been welcomed by Springer Nature, a leading international publisher of scientific content. This ambitious policy aims to provide easy access to knowledge and promote research excellence across the country.

According to Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Managing Director, Springer Nature India Private Limited, India's ONOS initiative is a 'game-changer' for the Indian research ecosystem, enabling nationwide access to high-quality research publications. With this new policy, around 18 million researchers, students, and educators at 6380 institutions in the country will have access to Springer Nature's extensive range of journals.

As the largest publisher of academic research in India, Springer Nature is committed to supporting Indian authors and institutions by enabling more of them to publish their work and reach a global audience. The company has already played a critical role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through its publications and activities, including recognizing women researchers in India through its 'Her research, Our Future' initiative.

To celebrate the ONOS initiative, Springer Nature is organizing an event with educational institutions across several states. These events provide direct engagement and support to researchers, aligning perfectly with the company's mission to open doors to discovery and innovation.

Springer Nature stands out as a strong partner to the Indian research community, showcasing its significant role in advancing the nation's academic and scientific progress. With almost 20 per cent of its employees based in India, demonstrating its commitment to supporting the country's research ecosystem.

The large-scale implementation of ONOS is expected to bridge the digital divide by providing equitable access to premier academic content. This aligns with Springer Nature's mission to make high-quality research universally accessible and foster global communities of scholars working together to tackle the world's most pressing challenges.

As an industry leader, Springer Nature has been committed to advancing research excellence in India for several years, including through its initiatives like the 'Research Tour', and the Research Initiative for Science and Education (RISE) campaign.
