DRONES ROCK RUSSIA AND UKRAINE AS WAR TOLL SOARS

Moscow, Russia - A wave of drone attacks hit Moscow and its suburbs overnight, injuring a woman and disrupting air travel at some of the country's major airports. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces were targeted by Russian drones in what officials described as a record-breaking nighttime attack.

According to reports, at least 70 drones were shot down over Russian territory, including 34 near Moscow's outskirts. A woman in her 50s suffered burns to her face, neck, and hands after a drone sparked a blaze in her village southeast of the capital.

Additionally, Ukrainian air force officials reported that Russia launched a massive "record-breaking" 145 drones at their territory overnight, with at least 62 shot down and 67 more likely lost due to electronic jamming.

The attacks came as officials released fresh casualty figures for both sides. The UK's defense chief, Tony Radakin, acknowledged that Russian forces had suffered significant losses in Ukraine, estimating an average of 1,500 dead and wounded "every single day".

Radakin stated that Moscow's troops were suffering under the strain of a prolonged conflict, adding that ordinary Russians are paying "an extraordinary price" for the war.

"In the end, we must remember what Putin gets from this: nothing but loss... The enormous pain and suffering that the Russian nation is having to bear because of Putin's ambition," Radakin told CBS News partner BBC.

Meanwhile, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan revealed plans for President-elect Donald Trump to meet with President Biden at the White House, discussing Ukraine's future under his rule. Sullivan mentioned that President Biden will urge Mr. Trump not to abandon Ukraine after taking office in January.

With the war continuing to rage on, both sides remain tight-lipped about casualty figures, fuelling speculation and concern over the escalating conflict.
