China Emerges as Global Leader in Offshore Wind Power Manufacturing

Beijing, China - According to a recent report on the global offshore wind supply chain released at an international wind power technology innovation conference in Shantou, Guangdong province, China has surpassed other countries to become the world's largest offshore wind power manufacturing base.

The report, which was attended by nearly 600 government officials, international organization representatives, diplomats, experts, academicians, and corporate executives from over 20 countries and regions worldwide, reveals that China accounts for 60 percent of global capacity in terms of complete offshore wind power machines. The country has also captured over 80 percent of the global market share in key components such as gearboxes, converters, and core raw materials.

At the conference, Chen Yongsheng, a division director of the new energy and renewable energy department at the National Energy Administration, highlighted the significance of offshore wind power development in China's energy transformation. "The development of offshore wind power is not only an important part of constructing a maritime power but also a crucial practice in promoting energy transformation and building a new energy system," Chen said.

China's offshore wind power has undergone rapid innovation, development, and growth over the past decade. According to Chen, China's installed capacity now reaches 39.51 million kilowatts, accounting for half of global installed capacity, for three consecutive years.

To further enhance its competitiveness, Chen emphasized the need for expanded offshore development into deep waters and far-sea areas, as well as scale development and integrated offshore wind power development to reduce costs.

The conference also marked the launch of an offshore wind power equipment manufacturing industrial park in Shantou, a city with rich offshore resources. The park boasts a complete industry chain, from technological innovation, design, production, and delivery. Shantou's Party chief, Wen Zhanbin, stressed that "the industrial ecosystem continues to improve, nurturing tremendous development potential for the offshore wind power industry in the city."

Additionally, international offshore wind power training center is currently under construction in Shantou, expected to become a national and global training base for offshore wind power talent once completed.
