CBSE Class 9 Social Science Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme 2024 Revealed
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the detailed exam pattern and marking scheme for its Class 9 Social Science examination, providing students with a comprehensive guide to understand how the paper will be structured and scored.
As part of the 2025-26 academic session, social science remains a compulsory subject, but it is also one of the most challenging subjects, making informed study and practice essential throughout the year. The exam includes four sections, each testing different skills such as remembering facts, applying knowledge, and analyzing ideas.
To help students understand what topics to cover and how much weightage each section carries, the CBSE has outlined four books: History, Geography, Civics, and Economics. The units under each book have their individual weights, and students are advised to allocate their efforts accordingly.
Here is a breakdown of the unit-wise weightage for each book:
- History (15 marks)
- 10 marks out of 20 will be allocated to the unit "Pastoralists in the Modern World" as part of Periodic Assessment
- Rest 10 marks will be allocated among other units, including "The Story of Village Palampur"
- Geography (20 marks)
- 15 marks out of 20 will be allocated to the unit "Forest, Society and Colonialism: Livelihoods, Economies and Societies"
- 5 marks will be allocated to Natural Vegetation and Wildlife (only for map evaluation)
The CBSE has also announced that internal assessments will play an essential role in contributing to the final examination. Students can expect the following types of assessment:
- Pen-paper test
- Multiple assessments
- Subject Enrichment Activity
- Portfolio
For more detailed information on the practical and theory syllabus, as well as map work and internal assessments, students are advised to check the CBSE Class 9 Social Science Syllabus 2024-25.
