BARC Invites Applications for Master of Science Programs in Radiation Medicine

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has announced inviting applications for admission to two 2-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) programs in radiation medicine, in collaboration with Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be university in Mumbai.

The first program, M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine Technology and Hospital Radiopharmacy) (NMT & HRP), focuses on equipping candidates for working as radiopharmacist or faculty in nuclear medicine centers and medical cyclotron facilities. The course requires the candidate to hold a B.Sc. degree with chemistry as one of the subjects, or be a pharmacists with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.

The second program, M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology) (NM & MIT), equips candidates to work as nuclear medicine technologists or faculties in nuclear medicine centers and teaching institutes. The course requires the candidate to hold a B.Sc. degree with physics or chemistry as one of the subjects, or a B.Sc. degree in nuclear medicine from an AERB-recognized institute.

Indian nationals are eligible for admission to these programs, which have specific age limits. Only those aged 35 and below can apply. Exceptions may be made for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/OBC candidates, with relaxations ranging between 5 to 10 years depending on the category.

The application process involves a Common Admission Test (CAT) scheduled to take place on December 15, 2024, at Anushaktinagar in Mumbai. Candidates will be selected based on their performance in the test, followed by a counseling session where seats will be allocated to candidates.

A stipend of Rs. 18,500 per month will be provided to non-sponsored candidates, while sponsored candidates do not receive stipends. BARC also waives tuition fees for these courses and charges a one-time enrolment fee of Rs. 11,000.

Selected candidates are required to execute a bond to complete the course within two years, failing which they will have to pay the aggregate amount of stipend received during their course duration plus interest.

BARC has already announced the programs' expected start date as January 2025, pending approval from a competent authority.
