AYUSH: New Era for Ayurveda Aahara as Journal of Drug Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (JDRAS) Launches Special Issue
The Ministry of Ayush has unveiled a special issue of the research publication, the Journal of Drug Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (JDRAS), dedicated to the emerging field of Ayurveda Aahara. This move marks a significant step towards bridging traditional Ayurvedic dietary wisdom with modern scientific understanding.
Addressing today's food-related challenges requires innovative, science-backed solutions rooted in tradition, said Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush. "Our research on Ayurveda Aahara offers valuable insights for preventive health," he added.
The Journal issue highlights the significance of scientific research in food science and nutrition, showcasing the latest research activities focused on Ayurveda's holistic dietary principles and their scientific underpinnings.
In alignment with India's age-old traditions of Ayurveda, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced regulations defining "Ayurveda Aahara" as food prepared according to traditional recipes and processes. The Regulations, approved on May 5, 2022, aim to safeguard the identity and authenticity of Ayurveda-based dietary practices.
"The introduction of these regulations formalizes our commitment to preserving the original principles of Ayurveda food preparation," said a Ministry spokesperson.
As part of its efforts, FSSAI has launched a unique logo for Ayurveda Aahara. CCRAS is conducting surveys across regions to document traditional dietary practices and recipes handed down through generations, along with scientific validation efforts to verify these foods' nutritional and therapeutic benefits.
Through comprehensive research, CCRAS aims to bridge traditional knowledge and modern health practices, creating evidence-based dietary guidelines relevant to contemporary society.
With the launch of this special JDRAS issue, CCRAS reiterates its commitment to exploring and validating Ayurveda's dietary heritage. The studies featured in this special issue highlight how integration with scientific methods enriches the Ayurvedic perspective on nutrition, offering a unique blend of tradition and evidence-based health solutions.
As India gears towards a new era for Ayurveda Aahara, the Ministry of Ayush is driving efforts to popularize its benefits. The journal's release marks an exciting step forward in this journey.
