Aizawl Hosts International Conference on Chemical Sciences

AIZAWL - Mizoram University recently became the hub for chemical science enthusiasts as it hosted the 'Current Trends in Chemical Sciences Research and Education' (CACSRE) conference, combined with the National Convention of Chemistry Teachers (NCCT), from [start date] to [end date]. This significant event underscored the university's commitment to advancing chemical sciences education and research in the northeastern region.

The conference commenced with an inaugural address by Ved Prakash Singh, Head of the Industrial Chemistry Department at Mizoram University and the event's convener. State Education Minister Vanlalthlana graced the opening ceremony, highlighting the critical role of science education in state development.

Distinguished guests included Vice-Chancellors SK Mehta of Ladakh University and RC Deka of Cotton University, who provided insights into the latest trends in chemistry and science education.

The three-day event was a melting pot of ideas with speakers like Konstantin Volcho from the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry, Russia, and T Punniyamurthy from IIT-Guwahati, among others, delivering key lectures. The conference featured 12 rapid-fire talks, 30 oral presentations, and over 60 poster presentations, offering a platform for young researchers to showcase their work.

In a pioneering move, the NCCT was held for the first time in Mizoram, attracting educators and students from local schools. The one-day program focused on climate change and sustainable development, featuring quizzes on environmental issues and educational sessions on innovative topics like nanopesticides and eco-friendly technologies.

The closing ceremony included plenary lectures by Ravi P Singh of IIT-Delhi and Subharata Sen of Shiv Nadar University. Certificates were distributed to all participants, and cash awards sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, were given to recognize the best oral and poster presentations.

The event, supported by various funding agencies including BRNS-DAE, CSIR, DRDO, and the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), attracted over 200 participants from prestigious institutions across India, fostering a collaborative environment for innovation in chemical sciences. The Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT), Mumbai, played a crucial role in organizing this successful conference.

This gathering not only highlighted current trends in chemical sciences but also set the stage for future collaborations and advancements in the field, reinforcing Mizoram University's position on the academic map.
