Aizawl Hosts International Conference on Chemical Sciences

Aizawl, Mizoram - The Department of Industrial Chemistry at Mizoram University recently concluded a three-day international conference titled 'Current Trends in Chemical Sciences Research and Education' (CACSRE). The event, which also featured the National Convention of Chemistry Teachers (NCCT), attracted over 200 participants from across India and abroad, marking it as a significant academic congregation in the Northeast.
The conference commenced with an opening address by Ved Prakash Singh, Head of the Industrial Chemistry Department and the event's convener. State Education Minister Vanlalthlana inaugurated the proceedings, underlining the critical role of science education in development. Distinguished guests of honor included SK Mehta and RC Deka, Vice-Chancellors of Ladakh University and Cotton University respectively, who provided insights into the latest trends in chemistry and science education.
The conference was enriched with the presence of international speakers like Konstantin Volcho from the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry in Russia and T. Punniyamurthy from IIT-Guwahati, among others. The agenda included plenary sessions, invited lectures, and various interactive formats such as 12 rapid-fire talks, 30 oral presentations, and over 60 poster presentations.
A highlight was the first-time hosting of the NCCT in Mizoram, which specifically catered to local students and teachers. This one-day program focused on climate change and sustainable development, featuring educational sessions on topics like nanopesticides and eco-friendly technologies, along with engaging quizzes.
The conference concluded with plenary lectures by Ravi P. Singh from IIT-Delhi and Subharata Sen from Shiv Nadar University. The valedictory session, led by Singh, included a detailed report on the conference outcomes and the distribution of certificates. Outstanding contributions were recognized with cash awards sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London.
Funding for CACSRE was provided by several prestigious bodies including BRNS-DAE, CSIR, DRDO, and the Royal Society of Chemistry from the UK. The event was supported by the Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT), Mumbai, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation in the field of chemical sciences.
This conference not only highlighted Mizoram University's growing stature in the academic community but also served as a platform for exchanging ideas and fostering new research collaborations in chemical sciences.
