Zomato Unveils District: A Dedicated Going-Out App in Bid to Diversify Business Portfolio
Mumbai, India - Zomato, a leading food aggregator, has launched its new dedicated app called District, which will serve as a one-stop platform for consumers looking to book tickets for movies, live events, sports, and shopping. Initially, the app offers services such as booking movie tickets and live show events.
District marks Zomato's third consumer-facing venture, following its flagship food delivery app and quick-commerce platform Blekit. The new vertical aims to consolidate Zomato's "going-out" business, encompassing a wide range of activities including dining, shopping, staycations, and more.
The entry into the competitive online ticketing market comes at a time when BookMyShow dominates with an 60% market share in India's movie ticketing segment. To strengthen its position, Zomato had acquired Paytm's entertainment business, Insider, for ₹2,048 crore in August.
This strategic move follows Zomato's recent financial success, where the company reported a net profit of ₹176 crore for the July-September quarter, marking the fifth consecutive period with profit. Revenue on an adjusted basis also surged by 69% from the same quarter last year to ₹4,799 crore.
With District, Zomato aims to expand its offerings and enhance user experience, further solidifying its position as a leading player in India's digital food ordering ecosystem.
