Zomato Launches District App to Consolidate Its Going-Out Business
Mumbai, December [Year] - Food aggregator Zomato has officially launched its new app, District, a dedicated platform for its growing "going-out" business. The app is now available on both iOS and Android devices, marking Zomato's third consumer-facing venture after its flagship food delivery app and quick-commerce platform Blinkit.
District aims to consolidate the various components of Zomato's go-out business, which includes dining, movies, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping, staycations, and more. The app initially allows users to book tickets for movies and live events, leveraging the company's existing expertise in these areas.
Zomato's expanding going-out business is set to compete with established players like BookMyShow, which dominates India's movie ticketing market with a 60% share. To bolster its presence, Zomato recently acquired Paytm's entertainment business, Insider, for Rs 2,048 crore in August.
The growing popularity of online ticketing platforms has been reflected in Zomato's financial performance, with the company reporting a net profit for the fifth consecutive quarter. Zomato registered a net profit of Rs 176 crore during the July-September period and recorded an impressive revenue increase of 69% year-over-year to Rs 4,799 crore on an adjusted basis.
With the launch of District, Zomato is poised to further expand its online presence and provide users with a seamless experience for booking tickets, dining out, and exploring other entertainment options.
