Zomato Diversifies into Going-Out Business with Launch of District App
Mumbai, December 1 (AlaryanaDaily.com) - Food aggregator Zomato has introduced District, a dedicated app for its growing going-out business, marking the company's latest expansion into the competitive online market. The new app is now available on both iOS and Android platforms, enabling users to book tickets for movies and live events.
District will consolidate Zomato's "going-out" business, encompassing dining, movie ticketing, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping, staycations, and more. Initially, the app allows users to book tickets for movies and live events, leveraging Zomato's existing Dining-out and Zomato Live businesses.
The launch of District enters a crowded online ticketing market dominated by BookMyShow, which holds an impressive 60% market share in India's movie ticketing segment. To bolster its position, Zomato acquired Paytm's entertainment arm, Insider, for ₹2,048 crore in late August.
Zomato has reported substantial growth, with a net profit of ₹176 crore registered during the three-month period ended September. The company also witnessed an adjusted revenue increase of 69% from the same quarter last year to ₹4,799 crore, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of profitability.
The success of Zomato's existing business ventures, including its flagship food delivery app and quick-commerce platform Blinkit, has provided a solid foundation for the company's diversification into new areas. As the digital entertainment landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to monitor District's performance and how effectively Zomato leverages its growing presence in this space.
