A widespread issue causing the YouTube app to crash on iPhones has been fixed by Google, with the tech giant advising users to uninstall and reinstall the app.

In a confirmation of a problem faced by hundreds of iOS users over the weekend, Google stated that "The issue is fixed!" The company recommends that iPhone users take immediate action to restore normal functionality by deleting the app from their device and reinstalling it from the App Store.

The crash, which affected both iOS and Android devices, was initially identified as a problem caused by an earlier version of the YouTube app. To address this, Google had earlier suggested a temporary fix by deleting and reinstalling the app. However, following an investigation into the issue, the company has since rolled out a permanent fix that clears out lingering bugs and installs the updated version, 20.20.4.

A message from Google to iPhone users with the app installed reads: "Please reinstall the app to ensure you are running on the latest stable version."

Experts speculate that the crash had nothing to do with ad blockers, contrary to some speculations on social media platforms such as Reddit.
