Young Woman Conquers World's Tallest Mountain, Inspires Nation

A 19-year-old college student from Himachal Pradesh has achieved a monumental feat by scaling the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest, in record-breaking time.
Kritika Sharma, a resident of the remote village of Gattadhar in Sirmaur district, surpassed many others who attempted to reach the summit, earning widespread recognition for her historic climb on May 18, 2025. Kritika's courageous achievement has not only left Himachal Pradesh proud but also inspired young girls across the nation to pursue their dreams without fear.
Kritika's journey was marked by intense months of rigorous training, both physically and mentally, as part of the high-level NCC Everest expedition team. The grueling training included high-altitude trekking, technical mountaineering techniques, and survival training in challenging terrain. Despite facing treacherous conditions such as sub-zero temperatures, low oxygen levels, and unpredictable climatic conditions on the mountain, Kritika's resolve never wavered.
The young mountaineer successfully navigated hazardous landscapes like the Khumbu Icefall and infamous Hillary Step without incident, overcoming physical fatigue and altitude sickness. Her achievement has been hailed by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who described her as "an inspiring example for the youth of our state and the whole nation."
The directorate general of NCC also congratulated Kritika and the entire expedition team on their remarkable accomplishment, attributing it to their hard work, diligence, and collective spirit. The achievement is testament to the power of teamwork, perseverance, and determination.
