Young Adults in their 30s Experience Early Bone Loss: Experts Say Changes Are Possible

A growing trend is causing concern among younger generations - early bone loss. According to Dr Venkatesh Movva, Regenerative Orthopedic Specialist and Founder of RegenOrthoSport in Nandagiri Hills, Telangana, bone density has decreased by 10% compared to previous generations among young adults.
Beneath the surface of this alarming trend lies a complex mix of factors contributing to early bone loss. Dr Movva cited sitting too much and lack of physical activity as key culprits. "Bones need movement and stress to stay strong," he explained, noting that long hours of sitting, excessive screen time, and reduced physical activity are taking their toll.
A recent study published in Endocrine found that regular physical activity can mitigate the risk of mortality associated with prolonged sitting among individuals with osteoporosis or osteopenia. To combat this trend, Dr Movva advises incorporating weight-bearing exercises into daily routines, such as walking, running, or resistance training. Moreover, studies have shown that just two sessions of strength training per week can significantly improve bone density.
The good news is that it's never too late to make changes that protect one's bones in the long run. By becoming more mindful of their lifestyle habits and incorporating regular physical activity into their daily routine, young adults in their 30s can take steps towards building stronger, healthier bones.
