YAMUNANAGER DISTRICT HEAVILY STAFFED
Health services in Yamunanagar district are on the brink of collapse due to severe staff crunch. The district's main hospital and sub-hospital, along with community health centers (CHC) and primary health centers (PHC), are struggling to cope with an acute shortage of medical professionals.
Patients are facing long wait times, with many resorting to returning home without receiving treatment. At the Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital, one doctor is often overwhelmed by 150-200 patients daily, straining the already stretched staff and impacting the quality of care provided.
The district has only one hospital at Yamunanagar and one sub-hospital at Jagadhri, with its community health centers and primary health centers also struggling. The hospital faces a shortage of 47 percent regular staff, including posts such as principal medical officer, senior medical officer, and other key positions that are yet to be filled.
A similar scenario is being seen across the district's health infrastructure. CHC Radaur has a vacancy rate of over 72%, while CHC Bilaspur faces a shortage of over 32%. The community health center in Sadhaura is struggling with nearly 60% staff vacancies, followed by CHC Naharpur which is facing an 86 percent shortage.
Experts are sounding the alarm about the critical state of healthcare services in Yamunanagar district. As Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Sushila Saini noted, the Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital receives around 1500-1600 outpatients daily despite a severe staff shortage.
