WhatsApp Introduces New Features to Promote Business and Creators on its Updates Tab

Bengaluru, Karnataka - June 19th, 2025: In a bid to foster a community of creators and entrepreneurs, WhatsApp has launched fresh features in its Update tab. With over 1.5 billion people relying on the platform daily, this move is seen as a significant step towards monetizing the platform.
The new additions allow users to "subscribe" to their favorite channels for exclusive updates, similar to a subscription-based model found on YouTube. However, unlike YouTube, these subscriptions come with an added value of supporting one's favorite creators on WhatsApp.
Promoted Channels have also been introduced, enabling admins to increase the visibility of their Channels. This feature can help creators build a more substantial following and monetize their content.
Another development is the integration of ads in Status. Businesses will now be able to promote products or services directly within users' statuses. However, rest assured that these ads are built with user privacy in mind, ensuring data is only used in limited capacities such as country or city, language preferences, channel followings, and interaction with certain ads.
It's also essential to note that WhatsApp would never sell or share your phone number with advertisers. User messages, calls, and group info would not be used to determine which ads users see.
WhatsApp Co-founders have been emphasizing their commitment to avoiding interruptions in user chats for years now. By integrating these new features into the Updates tab, they're poised to achieve a delicate balance between creator monetization and user interaction.

To celebrate this milestone, we'll be sharing more updates in the coming days.
