Waack Girls to Premiere Exclusively on Prime Video worldwide

Kolkata, November 22 - Global entertainment giant Prime Video today announced the highly anticipated premiere date of its original drama series, Waack Girls. Created and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Padma Shri awardee Sooni Taraporevala, in collaboration with acclaimed writer Iyanah Bativala and Ronny Sen, this vibrant series is set to dance its way into hearts worldwide.

The nine-episode comedy-drama series marks a milestone in Prime Video's journey as it tells the thrilling story of six young women from diverse backgrounds who form an unconventional dance group called 'Waack Girls' in Kolkata. With Sooni Taraporevala at the helm, this series promises to not only showcase mesmerizing dance sequences but also delve into themes of love, family expectations, and personal battles through the eyes of these strong-willed characters.

Leading the Waack Girls is Ishani, an expert waacker and choreographer played by Mekhola Bose, alongside Rytasha Rathore, who embodies Lopa - their scrappy, enthusiastic manager. Throughout their journey, the girls face societal norms and fight to maintain their individuality while defying expectations set by family members and friends.

Prime Video India's Head of Originals Nikhil Madhok highlighted the power behind Waack Girls saying, "This show is about passion but also tells us a universal story meant to inspire dreamers; our faith that it will resonate with audiences across geographies, especially the youth."

Produced by talented filmmaker Sooni Taraporevala alongside prominent producers Caleb Franklin and Vikesh Bhutani, who founded Matter Entertainment and Chalkboard Entertainment alongwith Sooni Taraporevala under the banner of Jigri Dost Productions. It is heartening to see various artists coming together for the betterment of Waack Girls which promises viewers an entertaining yet memorable dance drama.

In a statement Sooni Taraporevala shared her feelings on collaborating with such exceptional talents expressing, "I fell in love with waacking before I even knew what it was called when I first saw Mekhola Bose perform. This show is about passion but has an unconventional, fun spirit that's beyond your typical dance shows."

When Sooni initially pitched the idea to Caleb Franklin and Vikesh they were ecstatic as said Caleb. "We loved having the chance to make a show celebrating dance because it has the transformative power of human triumph which provided us with great inspiration to be a platform for these artists who mastered waacking globally."

The series will become available exclusively on Prime Video in India, with simultaneous international rollout in over 240 countries and territories worldwide. All episodes are released in Hindi with dub voices in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.
