Virat Kohli Apologizes For Team's Poor Performance in BGT 2024-25

Mumbai, Dec 26, 2024: In a candid interview, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli admitted to making mistakes during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, saying that the last two-three innings didn't go as he had expected.

Kohli, who has been under pressure for his performances in both cricket and off-field controversies, acknowledged that disciplinary issues had affected the team's performance. The Indian side lost the multi-format series to Australia, with many attributing their disappointment to Kohli's poor form with the bat.

"I take full responsibility for my mistakes during this series," Kohli said at a press conference on Tuesday, December 24. "I'm human, I make errors. But I've always kept my cool under pressure and have led by example. What happened in BGT hasn't happened before."

Kohli's comments came despite the team's poor showing under his leadership, which has been subject to scrutiny from fans, media, and sponsors.

"Last two-three innings haven't gone the way I wanted," Kohli said when asked about the series. "But that's cricket. You can win one day and lose another. We need to be better overall."

When inquired about his discipline levels, Kohli replied, 'The players are my friends'. However, according to sources close to the team captain, there have been indications of friction between some veteran players.

With India gearing up for upcoming tournaments, including the ICC Cricket World Cup 2025, Kohli's renewed focus appears to be a much-needed respite.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will surely keep tabs on Kohli and team management to ensure that the Indian side gets back to winning ways.
