US Stealth Aircraft F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II Face Growing Threat from Russia's Buk-M3 Viking Air Defence System
MOSCOW, RUSSIA - In a significant move to counter the growing threat from modern air forces, Russian company Rosoboronexport has unveiled its latest anti-aircraft missile system, the Buk-M3 Viking, capable of engaging and neutralizing some of the world's most advanced stealth aircraft, including the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.
According to sources within the Almaz-Antey company, which developed the S-400 air-defence system, the Buk-M3 Viking combines state-of-the-art radar capabilities with a multi-function missile system that allows it to detect and engage multiple targets simultaneously. The system is equipped with an Integrated Electronic Counter Measures (ECCM) system that enables it to neutralize enemy electronic warfare measures.
Developed by Almaz-Antey, the Buk-M3 Viking represents the latest evolution of Russia's long-standing Buk family of surface-to-air missile systems and features advanced radar technology, including a multi-band radar capable of detecting stealth targets. The system also boasts a highly lethal air defense network that combines state-of-the-art missile guidance systems with robust command technologies.
According to experts, the Buk-M3 Viking's advanced radar capabilities allow it to detect and track even the lowest-RCS (Radar Cross Section) threats such as stealth fighters like the F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor. The system's ability to hit targets at ranges of up to 70 km makes it a formidable air defense platform.
Russia has been in a long-standing arms race with Western nations, particularly the US, to develop advanced military technologies. With the Buk-M3 Viking, Moscow takes a significant leap forward, showcasing its determination to counter emerging threats from modern air forces, including stealth aircraft.
The Buk-M3 Viking is also highly mobile due to its tracked chassis, allowing it to redeploy rapidly and operate in a wide range of terrains, making it difficult for opponents to aim. With this system, Russia's military capabilities are significantly enhanced, and the country's long-standing defense pact will likely give a significant boost to its allies and partners worldwide.
