US Allows Ukraine to Strike Deep into Russia with US-Made Weapons, Risks World War Three
Moscow on Monday warned that the United States' decision to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory using US-made weapons could lead to the start of World War Three.
Maria Butina, a lawmaker for the ruling United Russia party, told Reuters that President Joe Biden's administration is "risking the start of World War Three" by making this move. She claimed that Biden's administration is trying to escalate the situation to the maximum while it still has power.
The decision, reportedly made by Biden's administration, allows Ukraine to use US-made missiles with tactical strikes on deep parts of Russia. Reuters cited sources saying that Moscow immediately warned "any aggressive act" could trigger a massive response.
Kremlin officials have yet to comment on the matter, but lawmakers are already talking about what Moscow might do in response. Andrei Klishas, a senior member of Russia's Federation Council, said that this escalated move was at the highest level and has put Ukraine on a "path to certain destruction."
Russian lawmakers described strikes with US-made missiles deep into Russian regions as "serious escalation" of tensions, potentially resulting in more severe consequences. Leonid Slutsky, chairman of Russia's lower house foreign affairs committee, said that using such long-range missiles would entwine countries like NATO and the US.
