US Aid to Ukraine Takes Deadly Turn with Biden Admin's Missile Authorization

The American military aid to the embattled nation of Ukraine has reached new heights with President Joe Biden's recent authorization allowing Ukrainian forces to use long-range missiles supplied by the US against targets inside Russia.

According to a statement released earlier this week, the Biden administration has authorized Ukrainian forces to deploy U.S.-manufactured Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) in the Kursk region, near the northeastern border between Russia and Ukraine. The new authorization is part of Washington's ongoing support for Kiev, which came amidst concerns that the conflict was heating up.

Ukrainian President Volodymry Zelensky stated on Tuesday that Russia had launched a massive assault on his nation, firing 120 missiles and 90 drones across its territory. However, Ukraine's air force reported that it successfully intercepted 144 of the airborne threats, shooting down most of the incoming danger.

The sudden shift in Biden's approach has left critics saying that the US is intentionally fueling a major conflict with Russia, rather than taking steps towards reducing tensions between the two nations. This stance puts pressure on President Donald Trump Jr., who recently alleged that the Biden administration was seeking to initiate such a conflict before his father potentially returns to the presidency in January.

As China has been vocal about urging for peace and stability in the region, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian urged "the cooling down of the situation as soon as possible" and highlighted the need for "an early ceasefire and a political solution". However, it remains uncertain whether such efforts can stem the tide or transform the war's trajectory in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, there have been reports indicating that Washington has authorized long-range missiles to be used against targets inside Russia. Analysts point to this decision as having severe implications on international relations, citing potential escalation and destabilization of Europe.
