UP Police Unveils Enhanced Safety Plans for Upcoming Mahakumbh Mela
Prayagraj (UP), Nov 12 - The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a series of advanced security measures to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the highly anticipated Mahakumbh Mela. Director General of Police Prashant Kumar confirmed during a review meeting that artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies would be utilized during the fair, which is scheduled to begin on January 13, 2025.
According to the DGP, his office has compiled a list of approximately one million suspected individuals who will be kept under constant surveillance at the event. Additionally, an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) team will be deployed throughout the duration of the fair to keep vigil over any potential security breaches.
"Security personnel will now undergo training to interact politely and courteously with pilgrims visiting the mela," Kumar stated during a press conference held on Tuesday.
Furthermore, the government has allocated approximately Rs 180 crore for fire safety, communication, disaster management, and other essential services specifically for this year's event.
"We will be utilizing various technologies, including CCTV cameras to keep an eye on both ground-level and satellite monitoring of the mela," he explained.
The Director General further announced that the police would establish connectivity with pilgrims from beyond the state via an integrated app. A dedicated system would also enable rapid distribution of factual information concerning social media misinformation.
With this heightened security focus, a large number of pilgrims are now better informed about measures in place to address concerns.
