UP GOVERNMENT REACHES MAJOR MILESTONE IN SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The Yogi Adityanath government has completed over 18,000 playgrounds across rural parts of the state since 2017, providing a significant boost to young athletes and promoting the development of sports infrastructure in the region.
As part of its ambitious plans to transform UP into a prominent sports hub, the state government has established 84 stadiums, 67 multi-purpose halls, 38 swimming pools, 15 synthetic hockey stadiums, and three synthetic running tracks. The government has also built 16 hostels, 47 state-of-the-art gyms, 20 synthetic tennis courts, and 19 dormitories for players.
In addition to these construction projects, the government has completed two international cricket stadiums, 12 weightlifting halls, and 14 synthetic basketball courts across the state. Two judo halls, 13 wrestling halls, six shooting ranges, and two indoor volleyball courts have also been completed as part of the infrastructure development drive.
The government's focus on sports infrastructure development is a key aspect of its 'Make in UP' strategy, which aims to promote sports and support players from all over the state. The government has made significant strides in enhancing sports facilities, especially in rural areas, where many young athletes lack access to proper training facilities.
According to government data, work is underway on more than 15,000 new playgrounds, with a target of completing construction by the end of this financial year. The construction of these fields under the MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme has provided continuous employment opportunities for workers and helped bridge the urban-rural divide in the state.
The government's commitment to building playgrounds, open gyms, and stadiums in all 57,000 gram panchayats, mini stadiums in each of the 826 development blocks, and well-equipped stadiums in every district is a testament to its dedication to promoting sports and developing young athletes. The government's efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the state's sports ecosystem and promote UP as a prominent sports destination.
