UP Government Deploys Advanced Technology for Enhanced Security at Upcoming Mahakumbh Mela
Prayagraj (UP), Uttar Pradesh: The security arrangements for this year's Mahakumbh Mela, one of the most significant Hindu festivals in India, will be bolstered with advanced technology, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This declaration was made by Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar after a review meeting with Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh.
According to DGP, around 1 million suspicious individuals have been identified through data from security control rooms, and regular monitoring will be carried out for anti-social elements at the fair. Security personnel are being trained to interact professionally with pilgrims, while the government has allocated approx Rs 180 crore specifically for fire safety, communication, and disaster management.
A dedicated Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) team will remain on duty throughout the event, providing surveillance from both above ground and through advanced CCTV systems during major bathing days. Additionally, visitors from across India and abroad can access services via a specialized app during the event.
To tackle misinformation spread on social media, DGP has set up a system that enables rapid dissemination of accurate information to 1 million people within 30 minutes. He also emphasized the engagement of popular social media influencers in spreading factual updates throughout the Kumbh Mela.
The Mahakumbh festival is scheduled to commence from January 13, 2025, and conclude on February 26, 2025.
