United Nations Acknowledges Journey of International Day of Yoga since its Adoption in 2014

New Delhi, June 15 - The Union Minister of State for Ayush Ministry, Prataprao Jadhav, has reflected on the significant progress made by the International Day of Yoga (IDY) movement since its inception in 2014.

Addressing a curtain-raiser event for the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), held at the National Media Centre here, Jadhav said that the IDY has become a global wellness movement rooted in India's traditional wisdom. From its humble beginnings in New Delhi to a worldwide phenomenon, IDY has brought people together from across the globe in pursuit of health and peace.

This year's celebrations will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking the national event for 2025. The theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' is a reflection of India's G20 Presidency's global health vision, emphasizing 'Sarve Santu Niramaya', meaning "May all be free from disease".

The grand event at Visakhapatnam will see PM Modi lead the common yoga protocol session with over five lakh participants. In addition, more than one lakh locations across the country will host 'Yoga Sangam' sessions, marking one of the biggest synchronised yoga demonstrations ever.

Union Minister Jadhav praised Andhra Pradesh government for launching 'YogaAndhra', a state-level initiative aiming to create a community of 10 lakh regular yoga practitioners. As part of the lead-up to the main event, the Ministry has planned ten signature events over 100 days, including 'Yoga Samavesh' for inclusivity and 'Yoga Bandhan' to promote international cooperation.

The progress made by IDY since its adoption in 2014 is a testament to the vision of Prime Minister Modi, who first proposed this year as International Day of Yoga. Today, yoga has become an integral part of global wellness movements, fostering unity and promoting health across the world.
