Union Ministry of Home Affairs Set to Release J&K Business Rules, Clarifying Powers and Roles
SRINAGAR, NOV 26 - The Union Ministry of Home Affairs is on the verge of releasing the long-awaited Business Rules for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), which are expected to outline the roles and powers of key officials including the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Administrative Secretaries, and other important personnel.
According to sources, these rules have been drafted by the Union Territory (UT) Government in collaboration with stakeholders, following a transparent process. The move comes after J&K's transition from being a state to a Union Territory, marking a significant milestone in the region's history after nearly six years of Central rule.
The Lieutenant Governor, who has authority over the Home Department and All India Services (AIS), already has his powers defined under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. However, the formal Business Rules are set to provide further clarity on key areas, aiming to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
Prior to this release, the General Administration Department of the UT Government had conducted extensive consultations with stakeholders to frame these rules. This exercise reflects the government's commitment to involving all relevant parties in the decision-making process.
The expected unveiling of the Business Rules is a significant development, which may ease tensions and bring stability to J&K's governance structure, while also addressing concerns over the powers and role distribution among key officials.
