Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Stresses Importance of Understanding India's Constitution
New Delhi: Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju emphasized the significance of grasping the fundamental principles of the Indian Constitution in a bid to promote constitutional literacy among Indians.
The minister expressed his aspiration to empower all citizens, particularly as the nation approaches its 71st Constitution Day at the Constitution House. As part of this effort, Rijiju announced plans to make informative booklets accessible to the public.
"One can often see people mentionning [the Constitution], but very few actually understand its fundamentals," Rijiju stated during a recent press conference. "Our goal is to spread awareness and foster constitutional literacy among all Indians."
To facilitate better comprehension of India's foundational document, Rijiju revealed plans for dual booklets - a compact booklet containing the basics of the Constitution and an expansive book that covers the making and historical journey of the Indian Constitution.
The latter will feature illustrations to aid readers in visualizing intricate chapters and provide comprehensive explanations regarding constitutional amendments. By offering such visuals, the government aims to produce an intuitive guide for understanding India's Constitution.
With this initiative aimed at sparking a national awareness drive on Constitution Day, a celebration commemorating the adoption of 1949's Directive Principles of State Policy, officials hope to cultivate meaningful engagement with India's supreme law.
