UN Declares 2025 as International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

Ahmedabad: The United Nations has announced that the year 2025 will be designated as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQST-2025), a move aimed at promoting global awareness and collaboration in this emerging field.

As part of this initiative, the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) has been recognized as an academic institution partner. To raise awareness about quantum technology among a broader audience, GUJCOST is organizing a one-day brainstorming session at the Gujarat Science City on Friday.

According to officials, while quantum technology has gained popularity over the past few years, its applications are still not widely accessible due to complex theoretical frameworks and substantial investments required for development. Therefore, the main objective of IYQST-2025 is to make this cutting-edge technology more inclusive and user-friendly.

By declaring 2025 as IYQST, the UN aims to encourage governments, educational institutions, industries, and other stakeholders to work together in promoting quantum science and technology globally. The partnership between GUJCOST and the UN marks a significant step towards creating awareness about the immense potential of this emerging field.
