Ukraine Attacks Russia With US Missiles Could Lead To World War 3, Warns Russian Lawmaker

Washington D.C., November 18, 2024: In a shocking policy reversal, the outgoing Biden administration has permitted Ukraine to use US-made ATACMS missiles for limited strikes inside Russia. This move could lead to an escalation that might bring about World War III, according to Russian lawmakers.

President Vladimir Putin had warned the West in September that if it allowed Ukraine to strike Russian territory with Western-made long-range missiles, the conflict would alter its nature and scope. The decision came as a surprise to many, including US President's Donald Trump's team, who are skeptical of the aid to Ukraine.

"We're trying to avoid World War III," former President Biden said when he initially opposed using US weapons against Russia. However, after momentum shifted towards Russia, Biden has relented, sending a message to Ukraine that it will support its efforts to hold onto a small chunk of Russian territory.

Russian lawmakers have expressed strong concerns over the development, with senior member of the Federation Council Andrei Klishas warning that it could lead to the Ukrainian state's complete destruction. First deputy head of the Russian upper house’s international affairs committee Vladimir Dzhabarov stated that Moscow will respond immediately and "this would be a very big step towards World War 3".

US authorisation for Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles inside Russia could enable Britain and France to grant permission as well, according to BBC reports.

The incoming US administration is unlikely to alter the policy, with President-elect Trump's team expressing concerns over financial and military aid to Ukraine. Donald Trump Jr wrote on social media that he will create "peace and save lives" during his presidency.

ATACMS are powerful ballistic missiles provided by Lockheed Martin that can strike targets 190 miles away. Developed in the 1980s to destroy high-value Soviet targets, they have been used extensively by US forces since the Gulf War and Iraq invasion.

This development comes as Ukraine is struggling to regain territory from Russian forces in the Kursk region. The missiles will allow Ukrainian forces to launch strikes on targets deep inside Russia for what could bring about significant retaliation from Russian and North Korean troops.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his willingness to end wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, raising hope of a more peaceful stance during his presidency.
