U.S. Army Veteran Killed in Attack on New Orleans New Year's Eve Crowd Pledged Allegiance to Islamic State
New Delhi, Dec 26 (Alayaran.com) - US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that a 42-year-old Texan veteran of the U.S. army who drove a truck into a crowd of New Year's Day revelers in New Orleans had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a father of two who once served in Afghanistan as part of a U.S military force was identified as the suspect. The incident left at least 14 people dead, with multiple more injured.
On December 31st, after beginning his journey from Houston to New Orleans, he posted five videos on Facebook between 1 hour and 37 minutes prior to the attack, where in which he said he supported the Islamic State - an ISIS faction that has claimed responsibility for numerous militant attacks across conflict zones including Syria and Iraq.
The suspect drove into a crowd of revellers with his vehicle at some point between 1:29am and 3:02 am (local time), after firing at police. The police officers were able to neutralise the threat before Jabbar's death.
