Two Alappuzha Scanning Centres Closed Down Amidst Allegations of Failure to Detect Genetic Deformities
The Health Department in Alappuzha has shut down two medical scanning centres after a couple lodged a complaint against them for allegedly failing to detect genetic deformities in their infant. The police have filed cases against the doctors of the scanned centre, with the father of the baby alleging that the abnormalities were not detected during the ultrasound.
According to an official statement by the Health Department, inspection teams have sealed the scanning machines at the centres, and officials found no records maintained for over two years as per norm. The inspection was carried out by a special team sanctioned by Health Minister Veena George. A further investigation is underway, with the submission of the inspection report expected soon.
Two doctors from Women and Children's Hospital in Alappuzha have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly failing to diagnose abnormalities. Additionally, a health services official is leading an inquiry into the complaint, claiming that the baby was born with severe deformities, including facial deformity, heart defect, and tongue retraction.
It appears that the couple took their infant home only to be cared for by tube-feeding due to the extent of the child's condition. The incident has raised concerns about the quality of medical care provided at these scanning centres, prompting a thorough investigation into this matter.
