Turmeric Milk: A Winter Wonder Drink that Promotes Immunity and Relieves Respiratory Issues

In an effort to combat the chill of winter, traditional Indian remedy, Turmeric milk or Haldi Doodh, has gained popularity as a healthier alternative. This comforting drink, made with turmeric, ginger, black pepper, and milk, is not just a pleasant way to warm up but also packed with numerous health benefits that can help boost immunity during the cold season.

According to Dr Sunita Dube, Radiologist and Nutritionist at Aryan Hospital and Medical Centre in Noida, Turmeric milk has several benefits. "Consuming turmeric milk in winter can help alleviate respiratory issues, relieve symptoms of the common cold, and even provide relief from flu-like symptoms," she added.

While generally safe to consume, Dr Dube warned that individuals should be aware of potential adverse effects when drinking Turmeric milk:

"We must take precautions, especially those with underlying health conditions or allergies, such as an allergic reaction, stomach upset, nausea, diarrhoea, or interactions with medications like blood thinners or diabetes medications," she cautioned.

Dr Dube shared the right time to consume turmeric milk for maximum benefits:

"Drink turmeric milk after meals to aid digestion and alleviate nausea. During cold and flu season, consume it regularly to boost immunity and relieve respiratory issues. Additionally, drinking turmeric milk before bedtime promotes relaxation and improves sleep quality."

This nutritious drink is not only comforting but also has several health benefits. However, it's crucial to be aware of these precautions, contraindications, and potential adverse effects to ensure safe consumption. Before incorporating Turmeric milk into your winter routine, it's advisable to consult a doctor.
