Turkish Man Shatters Axe-Throwing Record with Mind-Boggling 183 Feet Leap
Turkish private security guard Osman Gurcu has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest axe throw, achieving an astonishing distance of 183 feet 8.72 inches.
Gurcu, 43, surpassed the previous record held by American Jesse Rood at a previously unattainable mark, breaching the length of even an Olympic swimming pool – with some remaining room to spare. The impressive feat solidifies Gurcu's position as an eight-time Guinness World Records titleholder.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, Gorcu continually checks their website for new challenges and seeks out ambitious targets to aim for, ultimately inspiring his greatest aspiration: one day appearing within the pages of the annual publication himself.
"The feeling was incredible; the distance is enormous, which demands not only speed but precision. The axe had to stick in the target board – something I found challenging on several occasions," Gurcu revealed.
When asked about his experience with record-breaking, Gurcu reflected, "It's natural because I've always been skilled at throwing, a talent I cultivated since childhood."
However, Gorcu acknowledged that training for this record would have been significantly less feasible due to the inclement weather during the attempt.
The triumph marked not only a milestone in Gurcu's athletic prowess but also an exhilarating adventure that further reinforced his passion for taking on new challenges. Despite having another record target come and go, he remains determined to break more titles – this time the bullseye mark with a red-dot dartboard throw.
"I remain ecstatic about being a record holder," Gorcu proudly concluded.
