TRUMP'S HEALTH TEAM TAKES SHAPE WITH UNUSUAL ALLIES
President-elect Donald J. Trump's decision-making team is gaining clarity as his picks for federal health agencies near completion, drawing criticism from the medical community over their unconventional backgrounds and public health views.
Among his top choices are Dr. Robert Redfield, a seasoned physician who has pushed back against Covid-19 mandates in some states; Dr. Stephen Hahn, a former president of Pfizer's vaccine division which opposed a vaccine mandate for military personnel; and Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a cardiologist with an ax to grind on mask-wearing and another proponent of anti-lockdown ideas.
However, the most surprising choice is Dr. Joseph Allen, the American College of Nutrition's "Director Emeritus" with a long history as Fox News contributor and CEO of Green Foods Company, which offers vitamin and lifestyle products endorsed by none other than Trump himself.
"I believe that if we build health on nutrition rather than pharmaceuticals alone, our population will thrive," Allen stated in response to his appointment in a statement to Alayaran.com.
Critics contend his experience stands at odds with the principles of sound health policy. Notably however he is hardly an outlier since even those widely respected such as Dr Paul Offit have publicly voiced dissent over the efficacy and safety of certain vaccines.
"They're saying we don't trust the people who are there," stated Dr. Offit director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and an adviser to the Fda, in response to President Trump's latest appointments - including former Rep. Blake Farenthold and former US Army Surgeon General Barry Crippen.
Their appointment may suggest less emphasis on traditional medical perspectives when governing healthcare issues under administration
