Trump Nominates 'Disruptors' as Cabinet Members Amid Controversy
In a move that has sent shockwaves through Washington, President-elect Donald Trump is appointing "disruptors" - individuals who will shake up the status quo - to lead his incoming administration. According to House Speaker Mike Johnson, these individuals are by design, and they aim to bring fresh perspectives to high-ranking positions.
Trump continues to announce officials for key roles in his cabinet, favoring close allies over those with related policy experience. Several of these picks have raised bipartisan concerns, including energy secretary nominee Chris Wright, who is a climate change sceptic and has no government experience.
Wright's appointment is seen as a win for the fossil fuel industry, as he is expected to work towards fulfilling Trump's campaign promise to increase US oil production. His views on energy sources are at odds with former Vice President Joe Biden's efforts to promote renewable energy sources such as wind power.
"Biden became the first sitting US president to visit the Amazon rainforest, where he touted his climate legacy," a report by AFP said on Sunday.
Trump's picks have been defended by his son Donald Trump Jr, who claimed that the president-elect is surrounding himself with "competent and loyal" individuals who will deliver on their promises. However, some of these nominees are facing scrutiny, including Pete Hegseth, who denied a sexual assault allegation, and Matt Gaetz, who is at the centre of an ethics scandal.
Trump's defence secretary pick Robert F Kennedy Jr has also faced criticism for his vaccine scepticism. Despite this, Trump remains committed to appointing strong candidates for key roles in his administration.
