Tripura Implements Petrol Rationing Following Railway Disruption

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 - In response to a recent derailment of a goods train in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of the Northeast Frontier Railways, the Tripura government has announced a temporary rationing of petrol sales starting today. The incident, which occurred ten days ago, has disrupted the supply lines, leading to a significant reduction in available petrol stocks across the state.

The derailment caused a halt in goods transportation, affecting petrol supplies to various sub-divisions of Tripura, including the ICOL depot at Dharmanagar. "The railway authorities are working diligently to restore the line, with expectations that goods transport will resume by November 13," stated Sumit Loch, Director of Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution, in an official release on Sunday.

To manage the dwindling fuel reserves, the government has set daily limits on petrol purchases. According to a social media announcement by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, two-wheelers are now allowed to purchase petrol worth Rs 200 per day, three-wheelers Rs 400, and four-wheelers Rs 1,000.

Minister Chowdhury has called for public cooperation during this period of rationing, emphasizing the temporary nature of these measures. "We urge all citizens to adhere to the rationing system to ensure equitable distribution of the available fuel," he added.

The public is encouraged to plan their fuel needs accordingly and support the government's efforts to manage this supply constraint effectively until normalcy is restored.
