TRI-LATERAL PARTNERSHIP Launched to Advance Medical Technology, Address Global Health Challenges

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, three prominent institutions - AIIMS New Delhi, IIT Delhi, and University College London (UCL) - have joined hands to launch a trilateral partnership aimed at advancing medical technology through joint research, collaborative degrees, staff exchanges, and global industry partnerships.

The initiative is set to develop affordable healthcare innovations tackling pressing global health challenges. According to UCL President and Provost Dr Michael Spence, this partnership will be a "landmark opportunity in how we use medical technology to address some of the most pressing challenges."

The three institutions will focus on cutting-edge solutions in diagnostics, imaging, assistive technologies, artificial intelligence, surgical interventions, and quantum sensing. The partnership will be underpinned by staff and student exchanges, joint research programmes, collaborative degrees, workshops and conferences, and joint publications.

"This is a fantastic example of how the UK and India can work together with a commitment to research innovation, student engagement and entrepreneurship," said Dr Spence, adding that the partnership will bring together unique expertise from each institution to develop impactful solutions in medical technology.

The partnership has been welcomed by both institutions. Professor Alok Thakar, Head of Centre for Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship (AIIMS), described the agreement as a "transformative step" aimed at addressing pressing health and societal challenges.

"This is a revolutionary step forward in combining our expertise in medical science, engineering, and global policy to develop impactful solutions in medical technology," he said.

IIT Delhi Director Professor Rangan Banerjee expressed his institution's excitement about working together with AIIMS and UCL in the area of medical technologies. He stated that "science, engineering and medicine research and innovation can make a difference in people's lives by providing affordable healthcare."

The partnership is seen as a significant step forward for India's medical technology sector, which has been gaining momentum in recent years. With its focus on developing affordable healthcare innovations, this trilateral partnership is poised to play a vital role in addressing pressing global health challenges.
