'Transforming Education: Maharashtra Premieres National Education Policy 2020's Vision'

Mumbai, June 14, 2025 – The Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, officially launched the newly constructed Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Building in Mumbai today. This marks a significant milestone in India's pursuit of advanced multidisciplinary education with its National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Speaking at the inauguration, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the NEP 2020 as 'a philosophical document' that goes beyond administrative reforms and serves as a roadmap for delivering quality, Indian-rooted, and globally relevant education. "Mumbai is the engine of India's economy, which now ranks fourth globally," Mr. Pradhan urged the youth to leverage technology to tackle global issues, create jobs, contribute to GDP, and uplift underprivileged communities.

Emphasizing the importance of education in mother tongues, especially from classes I to V, Mr. Pradhan cited historical figures like Aurobindo, Tagore, and Madan Mohan Malaviya who championed Indian languages in education. He added that countries which educate their children in native languages progress faster. "Our children too can become global leaders by following this path," he said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the transformative impact of the NEP, stating that it has replaced a static system with a dynamic and flexible one, offering students greater choice and promoting a multidisciplinary approach. He emphasized that human capital is the future of economic growth and assured that the government will prepare a skilled, technology-ready workforce for 'Viksit Bharat @2047.'

Calling Mumbai the startup capital of India, Fadnavis said that Maharashtra is leading in innovation space and vowed to strengthen the start-up ecosystem with active support from academia. "We will incubate an ecosystem where the youth can lead the country," he promised.

The inauguration took place at newly developed facilities, which feature state-of-the-art laboratories aligned with Industry 4.0 technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR-VR), and 3D Printing – all designed to equip India's youth for the future.

Other dignitaries present at the event included SVKM and NMIMS Chancellor Shri Amrish R. Patel, MLAs Ameet Satam and Parag Alavani, and former MLA Kripashankar Singh.
