Top Cleantech Stories of the Week: China EVs Dominate Global Market

As we head into the weekend, it's time to recap the top cleantech news of the past week. And, as expected, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) companies continue to take center stage.

In our latest China Electric Car Sales Report, published on Monday, we revealed that 53% of new auto sales in China are now plugin vehicle sales, with BYD leading the charge. The Chinese EV market is still in its early stages of growth, but it's expected to continue to expand globally.

But BYD isn't the only player making waves. Xiaomi has also been expanding its reach, while XPENG and NIO have started to enter new markets around the world. Our Australian reporter, David Waterworth, recently explored the latest byproducts of BYD in Australia - the Shark.

Solid-state batteries finally get some attention this week with a factory announcement from Chery and Honda following suit. Energy storage giant BLUETTI has partnered the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to help "accelerate clean energy adoption and sustainable development in Africa."

Tesla made a surprise entrance into the Philippine market, while Hyundai just unveiled its new electric vehicle, the IONIQ 9.
