India Stunned by Tragic Air India Plane Crash: 169 Indian Nationals Among the Dead
In a devastating turn of events, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff on the afternoon of June 12, 2025. The crash claimed the lives of 169 Indian nationals, with three British nationals and one Canadian among those who lost their lives.
Operation Underway
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has activated an operational control room at the Ministry to coordinate all details related to the crash. A dedicated helpline number, PLUS 91 99741 11327, has been set up at Ahmedabad airport for passenger queries and assistance. Army and NDRF teams have engaged in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.
PM Modi's Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the crash site on Friday to oversee relief and rescue operations. Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu are already at the crash site, overseeing the relief and rescue efforts.
India Railways' Special Trains
Following the Air India flight crash, Indian Railways will run two special trains to facilitate passengers from Ahmedabad. One train will operate from Ahmedabad at 12 AM for Mumbai, while another train will depart for New Delhi at 11:30 PM.
Tata Group's Compensation
Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran has announced a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of those who lost their lives in the crash.
BSE SENSEX and NIFTY
The BSE Sensex closed at 81,691.98 points, with a marginal decline of 823.16 (1.00%) points. The NIFTY closed at 24,888.20 points, down by 253.20 (1.01%) points.
Foreign Exchange Rates
In the foreign exchange market, one US dollar is equivalent to ₹74.35, while one Euro is worth ₹96. China Yuan was traded at ₹11.92 and UAE Dirham at ₹23.50.

India is actively considering a landmark proposal from Russia to supply and co-produce the fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57E stealth fighter jet.
