Tied at 1.5 Points, Indian Contender Gukesh Looks to Gain Early Advantage in World Chess Championship

Singapore, November 26 - In a highly anticipated match of Game 4 of the World Chess Championship being held in Singapore, Indian contender D Gukesh was victorious against reigning champion Ding Liren on Sunday evening, taking a crucial edge in their tie-bound match.

The two chess giants had been exchanging victories and draws over their opening three games, with Gukesh demonstrating remarkable precision with his opening preparation, ultimately capitalizing on an opponent mistake to claim the victory. The win marked a significant milestone for the 17-year-old Indian prodigy as he earned his first classical chess victory against the Chinese sensation.

"It feels great," said an ecstatic Gukesh after the match. "The last two days I was happy with my play, and today's performance was even better - I feel good at the board, and it's always nice to outplay your opponent."

Gukesh credited his preparation for the win, saying, "I think that my opening preparation over the past couple of games was excellent." His skills earned him a boost of confidence as he stated that, "It's always nice to win against such a strong opponent. I believe this victory means more in the World Championship."

With the score 1-5/2 for both players after four games, Ding Liren currently trails behind Gukesh on the match leaderboard. The two will face off again in Game 5 of the championship, with Ding set to play white pieces on November 29 at 2:30 PM IST.

The world-class tennis tournament is a best-of-14 games contest with tiebreakers should there be a need for them. A score of 7.5 points are deemed sufficient for victory and a point awarded to the winner, whereas half-a-point would suffice for defeating an opponent who drew his game or beat Ding Liren's in all of the remaining eight.
