Three Frontier Naval Combatants Commissioned: PM Modi Dedicates to Nation
Mumbai: In a significant milestone for India's defence sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three frontline naval combatants INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The commissioning of these ships underscores India's unwavering commitment to building a robust and self-reliant defence sector, as reiterated by Prime Minister Modi. Expressing his satisfaction over the accomplishment, he stated that "the commissioning of three frontline naval combatants will strengthen our efforts towards being a global leader in defence and augment our quest towards self-reliance."
The three newly commissioned ships are the result of major Indian government initiatives aimed at enhancing India's maritime capabilities and cementing its position as a leading player in the global defence market.
INS Surat, the fourth ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, is among the largest and most sophisticated destroyers in the world. INS Nilgiri, which marks the first delivery of an Indian-built stealth frigate under the P17A project, was designed by the Warship Design Bureau and boasts advanced features for enhanced survivability, seakeeping, and stealth.
INS Vaghsheer, the sixth submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, represents India's growing expertise in submarine construction, having been constructed in collaboration with the French naval group Naval Group.
The commissioning of these state-of-the-art warships is a testament to India's resolve to strengthen its maritime security and bolster its position as a leading defence manufacturer in the region. This achievement comes ahead of India's bid to assume a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, signifying the country's growing capabilities in global affairs.
The Navy said that these three frontline naval combatants have been built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) as a tribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat, embodying a future-ready and combat-ready force.
