Thackeray Scoreboard: Aaditya Retains Worli, Varun Wins Bandra East, Amit Loses Mahim
Mumbai, Nov 23 (PTI): The Maharashtra assembly elections saw a mixed bag of results for the Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, with Aaditya Thackeray retaining the Worli seat and his cousin Varun Sardesai winning Bandra East.
However, Amit Thackeray, the son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief and Uddhav's estranged cousin Raj Thackeray, lost to Sena UBT's Mahesh Sawant in Mahim.
Aaditya Thackeray, who is the son of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, campaigned on his father's initiatives such as BDD chawl redevelopment and the Worli-Sewri project. He comfortably won the seat from Shinde Sena's Milind Deora.
Varun Sardesai, a Sena UBT leader, took on Zeeshan Siddique in Bandra East, despite Siddique riding on sympathy factor following his father's murder. The 2022 assembly elections marked Varun's first win for the Sena UBT after joining the party.
However, not all was well for the Thackeray faction. Amit Thackeray, who is also Uddhav's cousin, lost to Mahesh Sawant in a tight contest despite his father Raj's involvement in campaign efforts.
The overall performance of the Sena UBT was underwhelming with only 20 seats won.
