Tensions Subside in Prayagraj during Mauni Amavasya, Thousands Take Holy Dip at Ghats

Prayagraj, UP - In a bid to ensure mass hysteria surrounding the Kumbh Mela dies down and devotees take part in the historic event safely, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to masses on Wednesday. Addressing the situation which turned chaotic as devotees tried to cross barricades at Akhara Marg during the Mauni Amavasya mahurat, he clarified that approximately 8-10 crore devotees were present in the holy city today.

However, with continuous pressure faced by devotees trying to reach Sangam Nose, a few suffered serious injuries when they crossed the barricades. Adityanath stated that those who tried this were shifted immediately to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Regarding the ongoing situation in Prayagraj, Adityanath revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the site four times till now and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as well as Governor Anandiben Patel have been taking continuous reports of the situation. However, he assured the public that overall, the Kumbh Mela is under control but crowd size remains massive.

The CM advised all devotees to keep in mind that when 'taking holy dip', they should initially come forward on Akharas rather than moving towards Sangam nose once these crowds subside. According to Adityanath, numerous gatherings have gathered at the said location as well as nearby Nag Vasuki Marg and the historic site of Sangam.

Adityanath urged all devotees not to pay heed to rumors spreading across media platforms claiming movement of masses or reduction in number from the Kumbh area would provide entry towards the crowd areas such that devotees can only see Sangam nose from there.
