Tata Sons Chairman Vows to Transform Air India into World-Renowned Airline
Chennai: Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran has reaffirmed the company's commitment to transforming Air India into a globally renowned airline, promising exceptional service, cutting-edge technology, and a world-class travel experience.
While addressing a fireside chat with TVS Supply Chain Solutions Limited Managing Director Ravi Viswanathan at the Global Alumni Meet of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy, Chandrasekaran emphasized his dedication to making Air India an "absolute top-class airline in the world."
The Tata Group acquired Air India in 2022 for Rs 18,000 crore, marking the airline's return to its original founders after decades of government ownership. To support this transformation, the company has placed orders for 470 new aircraft—250 from Airbus and 220 from Boeing.
Chandrasekaran appealed to the audience to encourage Boeing and Airbus to expedite deliveries. Air India's December 2024 order includes 100 additional wide-body A350 and 90 narrow-body A320 aircraft, including the A321 Neo. This expansion aims to modernize Air India's fleet and elevate its status in the competitive aviation industry.
