TasWater Embarks on Major Technology Transformation Program as Government Supports Hydrogen Hub Development

Hobart, Tasmania - TasWater, the state's water and sewerage utility, is set to undergo a significant technological overhaul under the guidance of its new Chief Digital Officer (CDO). As part of this major transformation program, TasWater aims to upgrade and replace its core IT system, adopting digital solutions that will drive business innovation across the organization.

In a move to reinforce digital transformation, the Tasmanian government has provided TasWater with significant backing for its new hydrogen hub, Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone. The consortium, which includes TasPorts, TasNetworks, TasIrrigation, and various other stakeholders, aims to develop the green hydrogen production facility, valued at $70 million in federal funding.

To spearhead this initiative, TasWater will hire a technology leader responsible for implementing its "digital and technology strategic roadmap." Currently headed by chief financial officer Kane Ingham, the CDO role combines existing functions under a single leadership position. The appointment is seen as crucial in driving TasWater's digital change program and ensuring alignment with overall strategic aspirations.

With an existing team of 65 dedicated digital professionals, TasWater looks to expand its technological capabilities by leveraging innovative solutions and technologies. The core responsibilities of the CDO will include overseeing the upgrade and replacement of its core systems, developing a holistic innovation program across the organization, and driving forward-thinking digital change initiatives that foster customer-centric strategies.

TasWater's commitment to embracing digital transformation underscores its ambition to stay at the forefront of water and sewerage management in Tasmania.
