Tamil Nadu To Modernise Classroom Experience with Interactive Smart Boards

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to install interactive smart boards at all its 170 arts and science colleges in a bid to modernise the classroom experience for students.
The decision comes as part of efforts to integrate evolving technologies into education, which will enable teachers to offer more interactive lessons using visual and digital aids. According to senior officials from the Higher Education Department, smart boards have been installed at level one government arts and colleges, with an initial allocation of 290 boards valued at Rs 4.35 crore.
Under phase one, 58 level one government arts and science colleges will receive five interactive smart boards each, making a total of 290 boards to be procured through a transparent tender process. High-level authorities in the Higher Education Department will decide on the configuration, including board size and memory.
This initiative aims not only to enhance student learning experience but also to encourage university faculty members to upgrade their standards of teaching by leveraging technology-enabled classroom tools.
To ensure effective use of these technologies, students at these institutions are expected to receive proper training from professors.
"Smart boards can be upgraded from time to time," said P Manish Kumar, an interactive smart board seller. "They allow teachers and students to access educational software directly on the screen using fingers, pens or other related devices. The boards also enable multiple users to work on the same content simultaneously, fostering collaboration among students and providing enhanced learning opportunities."
This integration of technology is expected to transform the teaching-learning experience in Tamil Nadu's arts and science colleges, providing students with a more interactive and engaging way of studying complex concepts.
