Sustainable Packaging Revolutionary Turns Entrepreneur to Make a Mark

Bengaluru-based Bambrew founder and CEO Vaibhav Anant has made it a mission to revolutionize the packaging industry with eco-friendly solutions. In an exclusive interview, Anant opens up about his journey from struggling with single-use plastic to turning over a new leaf as an entrepreneur.
In 2018, Anant's encounters with distressing videos of sea turtles with discarded plastic straws sparked a quest for knowledge on sustainable practices. He quit his job at an EdTech firm and began exploring innovative solutions to reduce waste. Fast forward to today, Bambrew has saved over 60,000 tons of single-use plastic, reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 1.25 lakh tons, and conserved millions of kilowatts of energy.
"I was inspired by the struggles of a sea turtle with plastic stuck in its nose," Anant recalls. "It made me realize there was need for sustainable packaging solutions across industries. One big challenge was commercializing our alternatives without compromising cost-effectiveness, scalability, or functionality."
The team at Bambrew uses natural fibers such as bamboo, sugarcane, and seaweed to manufacture their eco-friendly packaging materials through a proprietary coating technology that offers strength, durability, and biodegradability.
"We're not just focused on saving the planet; we aim to create value for businesses like Amazon, Tata, and Unilever," Anant adds. "It's an honor to play a part in shaping a more sustainable future."
From NIFT to Entrepreneurship
Anant credits his fashion technology background as a springboard for entrepreneurship. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) taught him the importance of innovation, practicality, and taking risks.
"My student days greatly influenced my entrepreneurial journey," Anant says. "I learned to blend creativity with logic and think outside the box."
Mentorship Matters
Anant identifies his family, friends, and esteemed mentors as vital sources of inspiration.
"Resilience and innovation are quality I've instilled in myself through experiences like entrepreneurship," Anant mentions. His co-founder Kunal Prasad adds that Anant's strategic thinking has been instrumental in the growth of Bambrew.
