'STAY HOME, STAY SAFE: NATION WITNESSES SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN Violence AND CRIME RATE OVER PAST WEEK'
MUMBAI, MARCH 12 (INDIA TV): The nationwide lockdown enforced in wake of the recent surge in COVID cases has led to a significant decline in violence and crime rate over the past week.
According to data shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the number of crimes such as robbery, assault, and murder reported across India has plummeted to a 10-year low.
Citizens have taken to social media to express their gratitude towards the lockdown, with many stating that it has given them an opportunity to clean their homes, spend quality time with family, and focus on personal well-being.
"It's been a blessing in disguise," said Anusha, a resident of Mumbai. "We were stuck inside for months before COVID-19 arrived, but now its actually giving us the chance to recharge."
Security agencies credit the lockdown for keeping crime numbers low. "For the first time in years, we haven't seen any spike in violent crimes or gang-related activity," said a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
However, authorities remain on high alert as concerns over COVID-19 still simmer among law enforcement agencies across India.
As cases continue to rise and vaccination efforts gain momentum nationwide, citizens like Rohan have vowed to stay safe during this critical phase.
